HOW TO BE SAVED
To be saved is to be rescued from the consequences of sin. Sin is defined as one’s rebellious choices against the will of God; the Greek word means to “miss the mark” of the life that He benevolently created you to live. The Bible teaches that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), asserting that no one is good enough to achieve God’s standard for righteousness and save themselves from the consequences of their rebellion, which is physical and spiritual death. But while Romans 6:23 states that “the wages of sin is death,” that same verse finishes with wonderful news: “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Salvation---being saved---cannot be earned by any of us. It’s a free gift made possible by the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died on the cross to take on Himself the punishment of every sinner who would ever draw breath on this planet. Instead of the justice we deserve, we can have what we DON’T deserve, which is mercy and grace.
In order to receive this great salvation, we each need to do three things: REPENT, CONFESS, and BELIEVE. To repent means to think differently about our wrong choices in the past, and acknowledge that God’s ways are better for ourselves as well as for others. Then we need to confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and believe that He died and rose again.
If you do those things, the Bible says you will be “born again”, meaning your spirit will be made new. Some people feel immediately different after this happens, experiencing a lifting away of an inner burden and supernatural peace in its place. Others are filled with unspeakable joy, while others may not feel anything dramatic.
In whatever way that you first experience God, please trust that if you sincerely did the three things mentioned above, you are now a spiritual child of your Father in heaven, forever part of His eternal Kingdom, redeemed from your former life, and the recipient of new life in Jesus Christ! You’re also the temple of His Holy Spirit, who has come to dwell within you alongside your own spirit, and He’s available as your Helper every moment of every day.
You can speak to God as if He’s a Person, because He is! He designed you for relationships, and the greatest one you can ever have is with Him. We suggest a simple prayer like this to get started:
“Lord Jesus, I confess that You’re the Son of God and the only Way I can be saved. I believe that You died and rose again. I repent of my old life. Please forgive me of my sins and be my Savior. Thank you for Your great love, and for giving me new life that will never end. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
Welcome to the family of the One True God! Let that prayer be the first of many in your daily relationship with the Lord. Wherever you live, we pray that you’ll find and regularly attend a Bible-practicing church, which will encourage you in your new life and help you to grow spiritually. God wants you to be discipled, and a Biblical church will also assist with that process. For more information about discipleship, please click the yellow button below:
If you’re still not sure that you want or need to be saved, here are some other Scriptures to consider:
Mark 1:15
..."The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel (the Good News)." (NKJV)
Mark 16:16
16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (NKJV)
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (NKJV)
Acts 3:19
19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, (NKJV)
Acts 4:12
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (NKJV)
Romans 10:9-10
9 ...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (NKJV)
Romans 10:13
...whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (NKJV)
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)
Please remember that no matter who you are, where you are, or what you've done, God is only one prayer away from you! We pray that you will reach out to Him and personally discover the goodness of the Lord Almighty.
